July/August 2004: The creation of a state of the art dive fin as developed by Bob Evans for Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Future's Dive Team is mentioned in this month's "Diver - The Canadian Magazine of Underwater Adventure."

The always astute Jean-Michel Cousteau was inspired by nature; while filming orcas he noticed how the power and recovery worked as the orca swam through the water, "In the up-stroke movement, the fin is not very stiff. However, in the down stroke it becomes stiffer..." To create a fin that lived up to his specifications, Jean-Michel Cousteau enlisted the expert help of Bob Evans.

Diver Magazine says, Bob Evans is "known world-wide for his innovative fin designs, most noteably the Force Fin and its various permutations..." With such accolades Bob Evans was recognized by Jean-Michel Cousteau as having the creativity and know how to develop a fin for his team that married natural form with technological efficiency.

OPS or Oscillating Propulsion System is this revolutionary new fin. When locked into its flat position, the blade is flexible. Twist the blade at its point of attachment to stiffen the blade and shorten the oscillation for more sprint acceleration, when confronting current. The blade can be twisted upward to give the diver a strong down kick or the fins can be turned downward for times when a frog kick is what is called for.

Oscillating Propulsion System is on exhibit at the Museum of Science, Boston, Massachusetts. The fins are part of an exhibit called "Inspired by Nature", which includes objects for which their designers used their observations of natural form for inspiration.
